What’s the Best Way to Handle Challenging Behaviors?

Working with children can sometimes mean dealing with difficult behaviors. What books, classes, or methods have helped you manage them better?

I keep going back to FLIP IT (Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, Prompts) as a quick script: “I see you’re frustrated; the limit is no throwing; what can your hands do instead — squeeze this ball or help me carry blocks?” Then give 30 seconds of labeled praise right after the replacement behavior — even tiny wins — which reliably calms the tiny tornado; if your program uses a different framework, this still plugs in. What age group are you with so we can tailor examples?
