Incorporating Nature Walks into Childcare

I’ve been thinking about how we can blend outdoor adventures into our childcare routines. Simple nature walks can spark curiosity in kids while also promoting their physical health. Just this past weekend, we took a group out for a short hike and they were buzzing with excitement, asking all sorts of questions about the plants and animals we saw. Any suggestions for fun activities that get kids engaged with nature?

I totally get it! Last week, we brought a magnifying glass on our walk and turned it into a mini science lesson – the kids were thrilled to see the tiny details of leaves and bugs up close. Just remember to keep an eye on them; nature can be like a giant playground full of distractions.

I love this idea! Just last week, we took a nature walk and collected different leaves, then came back to make an art project out of them; it really got the kids involved and forced them to observe closely.

Taking kids on a nature walk is great, but don’t underestimate the power of a scavenger hunt! Last month, we made a list of things to find, like a pinecone or a feather, and it kept them engaged the whole time. It’s like Pokémon GO, but way less screen time.
