I’m evaluating door-top alarms versus magnetic contact sensors for toddler rooms; the goal is to prevent elopement during naps without startling kids. Has anyone found a unit with a reliable LED-only alert visible at 20–30 feet and a quick-reset protocol that keeps us compliant with fire code and our headcount logs?
We’ve had better luck with magnetic contacts feeding a Guardline receiver set to “LED-only” (volume off), mounted at adult eye level so the zone light is visible about 25 ft, and staff hit the top reset before updating the headcount so it’s one motion; fire inspector liked that it doesn’t touch the door hardware. Only caveat: the stock LED can get washed out in bright rooms, so we stuck a small USB backlight behind the receiver for contrast. Model we used: https://guardlinesecurity.com.
I’ve used a simple LED indicator light on the door with a magnetic sensor, and it’s been a lifesaver during nap time. It might not reset as quickly as you want, but it’s really visible from a distance. Have you considered something like this, or are you set on the more complex systems? It drives me nuts when they don’t cooperate with the fire codes.
